The Art of It All

What have you learned about yourself or the world as a result of living through the COVID-19 pandemic? Your challenge is to express your experience of living through this historic time through a work of art.

Together

Summary

Our Project is an animated music video showing how the decrease of human activity, due to global stay-at-home order, has affected nature and wildlife. However, our main idea is not to show human and nature as two opposite things, but as a single one. Nowadays, people have the wrong idea that the progress of each depends on the fall of the other. Therefore, we want to show a world where human and nature are the same – together as one.

How We Addressed This Challenge

During quarentine, people were able to realize what really matters and to value freedom. However, they also found out that we can only be free if the whole world is free together. This thought that humanity and nature are two separate things is causing the destruction of both. Through audiovisual language, our goal is to inspire people to see themselves as part of the environment and fight for a collective change. According to NASA and ESA satellite images, the emission of polutting gases has decreased since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. Experiencing this pivotal moment let us come up with this project that will instigate other people to think of innovative ideas to build a more sustainable world.

How We Developed This Project

Our team chose this challenge because it merges our artistic skills with our ideals. We wanted to instigate environmental awareness with our project, and we decided to use audiovisual language to convay the message in the most appealing way. An animated video is very emotionally relatable and the audience can see themselves easily in the story, no matter the age. Therefore, we didn´t use any lines or lyrics, to make it universally understandable.

In the composition of the song, we used a keyboard, a lavalier microphone and Audacity. For the animation, we used Clip Studio Paint Pro, DaVinci Resolve and Vegas Pro 17.0. Our main problem was the lack of time, but we were also not very used to the softwares and had some doubts. Despite of that, we managed to make our way through the project and achieved the result we expected.
