The Art of It All

What have you learned about yourself or the world as a result of living through the COVID-19 pandemic? Your challenge is to express your experience of living through this historic time through a work of art.

ChemicArt

Summary

Our project consists of creating a painting / drawing that can portray what we are experiencing today. Our challenge is to express what we cannot talk about, portray the relationship of astronauts who live in constant isolation from planet Earth, with the isolation that we are experiencing now because of COVID-19 and, in this way, relate the effects as a cause of this isolation. on our planet as atmospheric pollution, economic crisis and, mainly, mental wear and social difficulties.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The category that best suits our project is the most inspiring, considering that, in addition to being also thought with scientific data, the main point of art is to convey emotions, which are aimed at raising awareness and inspiring people in the current context of pandemic and social isolation.

How We Developed This Project

The challenge revolves around expressing in a work of art what we are experiencing in this historic moment, what the world is experiencing in this moment, for example: breakdown in health systems in various parts of the world, economic crisis, social isolation, studies distance, among several other factors. The impact of these causes on society is diverse, since the consequences are felt by all people, regardless of race, culture, gender or age. That is what inspired us to participate in the Space Apps Challenge project.

Tom Willians, a psychologist at NASA, says that the isolation of an astronaut in space causes several stressful situations and therefore measures must be taken to combat this momentary feeling. In the current scenario this problem is also present. In addition, having to deal with the death of victims of this disease, which, according to updated data from Johns Hopkins University, already exceeds 350,000 deaths, it becomes even more important to seek solutions to reverse the psychological consequences.

The chosen data are related to psychological issues and computed data of confirmed cases of the disease, establishing a relationship that serves as inspiration for the creation of a work, because, through them, they have a more comprehensive view and clarify problems of the problem in question.

The main problem faced by our team is related to communication, as we cannot communicate closely. However, working together we managed to unite even more and we understood the importance of group work, in which we must always treat each other in the best possible way to have a great result.
