The Art of It All

What have you learned about yourself or the world as a result of living through the COVID-19 pandemic? Your challenge is to express your experience of living through this historic time through a work of art.

The truth

Summary

We decided to send a message of loneliness, anxiety and inequality. All these aspects are present in our image. Loneliness is represented by space, a very empty place. Anxiety is portrayed by the Corona virus acting like the sun, governing the lives of people around it, causing fear and distress. And inequality is portrayed by the difference that each person has to protect himself in the middle of space. As we know, Covid-19 requires a protective equipment, inequality is portrayed precisely in this disparity, while the astronaut, who represents the rich, is overprotected, you, who represent the low-income population, are completely exposed to the evils that the situation can bring to her.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Art has been one of the greatest means of entertainment and distraction for people during isolation. Our project is based on demonstrating the feelings that are present in people during isolation, such as loneliness and anxiety, and also demonstrate the much-present social inequality between people. Therefore, we use art as an alternative and impactful means of representing some of the biggest challenges that are consequences of COVID-19.

How We Developed This Project

To decide what we were going to develop, we made a connection with the whole group, and through it, ideas came up.  First, we talked about the topics covered by our art, which in this case were: loneliness, anxiety and social inequality.  After that, we started to think, how we would relate these topics to Covid-19, and that's when the idea on which we made our art came up. We choose this challenge for show the feelings and reality of the people from a different way, since art has been one of the biggest ways of distraction and entretainment during the quarantine, besides it be one of the best ways to express whatever you want.
