The Art of It All

What have you learned about yourself or the world as a result of living through the COVID-19 pandemic? Your challenge is to express your experience of living through this historic time through a work of art.

Dear Dwarves, please send your love to the earth!

Summary

When I heard the word COVID-19 for the first time, I thought, "It seems to mean a dwarf," based on its Japanese pronunciation. We used the satellite data to help the dwarfs find such a place. Then I thought of a game to guide how satellite data, or data for games, could change real-world data. The game server takes in various data in real time and reflects it in the game world. Players can simulate what kind of measures to take.

How We Addressed This Challenge

In order to create a world where dwarfs are comfortable to live in, the player aims to improve the numerical values of the real world data and simulate numerical targets that would be good to reflect in the real world.

How We Developed This Project

We also attempt to create a novel game.

In this adversity, various experts face the COVID-19 problems by simulating many things. But, we know that there are wonderful people bringing us big enthusiasm for problem solving.

They are people who are into games.

Using by their passion, we can simulate better options, can’t we?

Then, when inputting satellite data, open data and other various datas that the game needs, what change in data of real world can make this reality better?

The answer is here in our game. Our game can guide you to lead the answer.

On this game server, we take in satellite data and open data in real time and reflect these data on the game world. And, Players simulate what measure to do in order to keep a balance between the economics and the environment.

So, it's a game like SimCity that uses real-world parameters and real-world maps. And we implement an API server to pass game parameters and satellite data to the game, Utilize satellite data on atmospheric radiance and vegetation photosynthetic effective reflectance.

We believe that Art can save people no matter what age, what gender, what color they are, what language they speak, what work they do, what religion they believe and what they love.

Art has a power to unite people around the world and also has a power to be always beside them. And, the meaning of the art, and moreover, art itself can change. In other words, it depends on us.

First time I heard the word COVID-19, I thought that “Oh, It seems something about Kobito. (dwarf in Japanese)” Because, COVID and Kobito has almost the same pronunciation.

So, I came up with the idea of trying to look at the good side of the effect by the virus. And if we can look at the good side, anyone should be able to feel peaceful even by the ferocious virus.

In this story, dwarves show us the way to the peace.

This is a story of 7 dwarves trying to find a better place to live. There are some places with improved environmental condition for them because of the suspension of economic activity. We helped dwarves to find such places by using satellite data. Then, they put the medal on the place we found and they live happy ever after.

That’s it. That is the story.

“Why can you call it Art?”

Maybe now you want to ask us this question.

But, imagine what happened to the earth after dwarves putting on medals.

The medals are shining and shining, forming the peaceful symbol

-But, it is not completed. You can complete your own Art only when you think about the peace.
