The Art of It All

What have you learned about yourself or the world as a result of living through the COVID-19 pandemic? Your challenge is to express your experience of living through this historic time through a work of art.

Lights and Shadows

Summary

Living in an ever-changing world, it's in our nature to overcome any difficulties that we face on the way. No matter how weak we feel at times, we never lose hope that together we can achieve anything! These times made us praise the smaller things in life that we sometimes take for granted. Although we can't always see the light at the end of the tunnel, if we keep moving, we'll come to a better place and build the future together, especially with the help of essential workers.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The way our project addresses this challenge:

Resources:

  • Most of the footage that we used is from the resources that NASA has provided.

Our experience of living through this historic time through a work of art:

  • Through our video, we wanted to express our experience of living during the pandemic, how it affected our lives so unexpectedly, how all of us are facing the consequences and how we are moving forward to find new and innovative solutions in order to overcome it.
  • We wanted to praise the invaluable help of key-workers across the world. By fighting the coronavirus in the frontline, their work takes up an essential part of our project. They are the real heroes during this time, who risk their lives in order to save those of many.

What we have learned:

  • We have learned that even through the darkest of times, hope is something we give ourselves. However,  we always find ourselves united and this is exactly what gives us the strength to move forward and explore new things together.

Accessibility:

  • We published our video on YouTube and it is easily accessible from everyone across the globe.
How We Developed This Project

Living in these uncertain times was a unique experience for all of us. Through this video, we wanted to express our own, based on our point of view. Everything started when Anda, Eneida, Meki, and me (Dea) started to discuss how the coronavirus had affected our lives and how we could express this through art. The first thing that came in our minds when we were discussing how everything changed so unexpectedly was the series we watched when we were kids: “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. This made us start with the script, inspired by the opening of the ATLA. Although we preserved the rhythm, we changed the words to fit our context too. Unlike the Avatar, we live in the real world and the heroes are found only among us, therefore the heroes during this pandemic have been the essential workers: nurses and doctors, teachers, police, social workers, and many more. In our video, we created the characters and animation using Krita. Video editing is done with Camtasia. The audio editing and music (produced by Anda) were made in FL Studio. On the other hand, we used images and videos that were provided by the resources of NASA to better express the global impact of this virus and how we could overcome this together.
