Food for Thought

Your challenge is to consider the journey of food to your plate, determine how disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the food supply locally and globally, and propose solutions to address these issues.

Dofood

Summary

Our solution here starts with a progressive web application (PWA) that will focus on 4 tabs: the first shows the articles on food disturbances linked to Covid-19, the second teaches us how to cultivate our garden, the third teaches us useful recipes and the fourth allows you to carry out food transactions with those around you.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project solves this challenge in 4 parts, in addition to showing how covid-19 impacts the food supply, it offers long-term and immediate solutions.

First Part: Hub Info

In this tab, we use the sample NASA resources to list the articles on food disturbances related to Covid-19.Data is thus centralized in a flow, which facilitates information.

Second Part: Gardening Tutorial

Here we list tutorials (youtube links, wikihow, ...) to be able to learn gardening, make natural fertilizer.

Third Part: Food cooperation

Here, we can make food transactions if not shared with the neighborhood. The goal is to promote social support.

Last Part: Homemade recipe

Sometimes out of stock, sometimes closed, getting supplies becomes difficult and we thought of a tab that could present recipes from certain ingredient that you have.

How We Developed This Project

Personal Opinion

The challenge in itself is interesting, it inspired us because it is a glaring problem and the solutions can come from everyone (team members).

Technical approach ?

We just thought of a progressive web application that met the criteria of the challenge. Obviously, helping all social classes in the world to become aware of the issues was our goal.

How was the data used?

For resources, we relied on FAO RSS feeds which provide us with information on the food supply disruptions linked to COVID-19.

For this project, we used as a tool:

  • HTML5, CSS3 & JavaScript
  • Adobexd
  • VSCode (best editor )

Problems

The main problem was the lack of resources (article, API), we had trouble finding the correct data.
