Food for Thought

Your challenge is to consider the journey of food to your plate, determine how disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the food supply locally and globally, and propose solutions to address these issues.

RoCo - Route Covid-19.

Summary

The RoCo - Route Covid-19 is an app for navigation and vital signs monitoring of truckers (from food transportation??). To protect the users, the app indicates alternative routes, so it is not necessary to stop or stay exposed for long periods in locals with high contamination of covid-19, and, when there isn’t this possibility, it shows the safest time to enter those areas. Besides, the app works synchronized with equipaments that watches the user’s vital signs. Thereby, based on the trucker’s health, the suggestions are emphasized by the app, that gives rewards when the user executes the orientations.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The chosen challenge was “Food for Thought”, and based on that, we sought problems faced by the lack of food supply and its distribution issues. In view of those problems, for example, routes with difficult access and agglomeration, it was noticed that the contamination with covid-19 of the responsibles by food transportation is alarming, in all cities and countries. Thereby, it was thought the app RoCo, to show the users how easily the coronavirus can propagate when they travel to deliver the foods. Thus,  the movimentation will be safer, when the app is monitoring the vital signs and making sure that the user is healthy to work and deliver food to all the citizens affected by the coronavirus.

How We Developed This Project

Brazil is a typically agricultural country, and many team members have relatives and friends in the area. Thus, we saw closely how the pandemic is affecting the branch and people involved, and sympathized with the ongoing situation when we thought that worldwide people are going through the same situation and many are suffering. That’s why we chose the “Food for Thought” challenge, aiming to find a solution that could help as many people as possible and the easier as possible also.

Thinking of a simple way out of the problem, we reached the idea of a digital and mobile application, since nowadays almost everyone uses a cellphone, and therefore, it would be quickly implemented and used. Moreover, we would link data regarding Coronavirus cases and contamination, gps and cars and people flow to develop our software and its logic of functioning.

For our product development, we used the Porkbun website and Trello, once we didn’t develop it for fact, consisting in one of the problems.

For us, it was a great achievement and happiness when we found a plausible solution, but a solution with a problem. None of the team members had the knowledge necessary to program an app the way we thought, and that’s the reason that was decided only to describe its functions and functioning in the website. Even so, it was all an achievement for the team.

To help organize tasks, we use Trello, which can be acessed at this link:https://trello.com/invite/b/nolt86Mb/2ca5bf6b64290abde93b1b14c1fc3014/apps-nasa
