Food for Thought

Your challenge is to consider the journey of food to your plate, determine how disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the food supply locally and globally, and propose solutions to address these issues.

Summary

The solution is increasing soil's fertility and use the automatic irrigation. The fertilizer consists of legumes' nodules because it contains nitrogen, banana's peel because it is rich in potassium and guano because it contains phosphor. All of them will be converted to the liquid state under the changing of pressure. For automatic irrigation, we use the sensor FC-28 which measures soil's moisture.According to the moisture, water moves from the tanks by pipes.All of that will be done by Arduino.

How We Addressed This Challenge

According to the FAO, some countries may suffer from the shortage of food because of some reasons like closing the borders of some countries, reducing the percentage of agricultural workers to prevent big gathering and reducing importing and exporting processes. This shortage may harm people especially poor people. For this reason, the best way to help countries to achieve food self -sufficiency is using automatic irrigation to prevent gathering of workers and increasing the fertility of fields to increase the agricultural production. Foe the automatic irrigation, our systems do not depend on humans. The system works automatically by measuring the moisture of the soil and irrigate the plants according to the moisture. In the other hand the organic fertilizer consists of cheap organic material, so farmers should not pay a lot of money to have it and the fertilizer consist of the main three elements to the plant.

How We Developed This Project

Through our previous visit to agricultural areas, we have noticed that one of the problems facing developing countries is that farmers gather heavily in agricultural land, especially in irrigation, and we also found that there is a large shortage of agricultural products and a lack of production, especially after the spread of the virus, so this challenge One of the most important challenges facing the world, so we decided to add the technological component to it and we saw that it is the simplest and cheapest idea for automatic irrigation without human intervention, which can solve the two problems presented by reducing the friction of farmers and increasing the production and quality of agricultural lands. We choose this challenge to develop technology but with high efficiency and less money and support farmer to use it whatever economic condition. A quarter of billion around the world threatened famines so, its drive us to choose this challenge. Firstly ,We care to reduce agriculture crisis by technology machine. We know the most problem faced agriculture land is irrigation so, we decide to make automatic irrigation system help farmer in irrigation land easily without any effort . then , we find the most thing depend on irrigation is soil moisture. soil moisture support us if we soil need water or now so we think to make connection between soil moisture and automatic irrigation system we made . finally ,we have skills in  artificial intelligence specialize in Arduino so,  we provide sensor to  measure soil moisture  and send notices to start irrigation . so we need storage water to irrigation any time so we provide system with water tank . we provide it with motor to raise water to tank. Some wires to transfer electricity to the sensor .Space agency data was helpful for us to solve this challenge . image taking by space agency provide us by information through the comparison between 4 years ago and latest image show us developing agriculture in many country . we noticed by comparison migration of people in agricultural areas different in every year then drive us to know this reason made people migration and leave agricultural work agriculture crises faced was one of reason make people migrated specially in irrigation  . after searching about reason faced agriculture in difference area from image taken by space agency and their article on time , we deduce there is country will be in famines and most country faced crisis in agriculture specially after spreading corona virus . image from space agency drive us to know one of reason effect on production .Arduino uno: programming sensor codes and controlling water.
FC-28: Moisture sensor to measure soil moisture if it is reduced or increased and dependence on it leads to irrigation of agricultural land. Use in water transfer tank: to store water.
Motors: In order to raise the water to the tanks and another, in order to push it from the hose
sensor: to know the degree of soil moisture and the amount of water required for irrigation.
Wires: to transfer electricity to the sensor and to the motors. One of the problems that we faced was the lack of time required to choose the idea and that we had difficulty in making it an easy idea and can be implemented easily and that for all countries and we focused on developing countries because it will be the largest economies affected by the virus, we also faced the problem of multiplicity of ideas and difference of opinion in the beginning But after focusing and checking, we chose the best of them and we all arranged and developed them.
