Food for Thought

Your challenge is to consider the journey of food to your plate, determine how disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the food supply locally and globally, and propose solutions to address these issues.

Space UAI

Summary

Our project is an APP for sales, that is a solution to farmers who sells locally and are not beeing able to sell during this quarantine , even if they don't have access to a smartphone or to the internet. They can register their products and receive recommendations to plan their cropping with a single phone call. In this case, our IVR will connect them to the application and expose their products to the customer. This way, farmers will be able to continue selling their products.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Every team member share the passion to solve the ancient problem of food distribution, aggravated by the crisis. Our solution focused on the local farmers, which live in a subsistence situation and have lost their main source of income. Without access to technologies that could solve this problems, the families become helpless. The team didn't used data from the space agency in the design of the solution, but in the future, it will be a major point in the development, in order to bring data from climate analysis to the farmers, giving tips to help the planting. We used the "Justinmind Prototype" to prototype the idea. Our biggest challenges involved comprehending the reality on other countries in order to identify a common problem amongst them and develop, in a short time, a good solution that could be applied within six months and have a meaningful impact after the crisis. Our achievements were to delivered in time an ideation that explained clearly the solution and our objective of bringing information to less fortunate individuals.

How We Developed This Project

We read about it in docs, news and analyses from specialist of the sector, searching for solutions that could be quickly developed, scalable, with lasting effects in the post-pandemic times and primarily contributing to those that were most affected in the food supply chain. Once the target it's identified (the small farmers) we searched for information to help us understanding what affected their work the most. We understand that the quarantine deeply impacted them due to the small expiration period of their products. To solve that, we tried to think in a secure way to assure that the small farmer could continuing to produce and sell like before.
