Food for Thought

Your challenge is to consider the journey of food to your plate, determine how disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic are affecting the food supply locally and globally, and propose solutions to address these issues.

To All - Democratic Way of Making Food

Summary

The challenge for a world where social distance is a reality that needs to be incorporated as a new social practice, where the long production chains are fragile, and that producing their own food assumes a socioeconomic role, we present a project that aims to help in the construction of a social practice: that of local food production. Using democratized aeroponic technology with sensing and automation, combined with intelligent software that teaches the cultivation process, assisting in its monitoring and conduction, it is possible to produce significant amounts of food, in little space, saving resources and accessible way.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We have a mission to democratize access to a food production method, with technology, intelligence and quality, making it cheap enough to stimulate local urban production, foster the formation of community food production centers, guarantee security and food quality for a wide variety of people, reducing the cost of food and reducing the production chain from food to food. The project has the potential to solve family / local problems in much of the food production globe, with a focus on vegetables and vegetables in general, using technology, with high yield, as well as contributing to the construction of food cultivation plants that supply needy communities, condominiums and other structures where people gather to produce food collectively. The idea is to inspire and encourage contact with the food consumed through its production, creating production centers that in the future can exchange and sell their products, creating a more accessible, quality and local food distribution network.

How We Developed This Project

The process of aeropononic cultivation associated with joint intelligence and automation apply solutions adapted to the new economic paradigms of the 21st century, where robotics, AI, automation and biotechnology change the way food production is carried out in the world. These innovations are applied in the construction of a platform that makes the production of quality and quantity food in an ecological and resource saving way stimulating and easy. It is a highly technological productive tool, with efficiency and adaptability, with low cost and available to everyone who wants to produce their own food or produce collectively, with savings in personnel, resources, time and effort.
