Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Aesculapius Project

Summary

The challenge is to predict sweet spots concerning human factors, the solution is the restraint of the disease flow from the epicenter to the next cities using monitoring and scientific work proposed by the project. It would be possible to break up the covid19’s transmission chains, slow the appearance of new points of transmission, ensure quality information for the crisis regulation in the counties, and allow the possibility of new medical routes, aiming the mobilization of infected to get better attendance in the health centers.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The data raised and the discussion in the group made evident the main impact of COVID-19 in the scope of the human resources theme; it was the capability of a really fast spread, leading to new outbreaks and new epicenters in a small amount of time. People with less monetary conditions are the ones who suffer the most due to the dependence in the health system, to the income decrease, which made this call increase the search for new places to live. Among the consequences, it is highlighted: in short term, a socioeconomic crash, the lack of preparation against the epidemic; in the medium term, the society stabilization in front of the constant fights in the health system amid a cooling economy; and long term, the presence of debts and different daily life in the post-epidemic world. The key to solving future outbreaks represent an opportunity, once the flow of debilitated is contained in the cities e fewer factors of propagation are disseminated, there’s a warranty of more vacancies in the health centers, fewer outbreaks of disease, flattening of the infected slope while people are waiting for the vaccine and other resources. All the data prove our arguments, once it’s evident starting researches of medical centers and public agents of health that the restraint of new cases of COVID-19 prevents the saturation of the health system.

How We Developed This Project

The process had had as main objective converging our ways and opinions to look for the best solution. So, every thinking was heard, discussed, and prepared for the group’s Project. As far as we are concerned, the monitoring is the better option to prevent new diseases outbreaks, because, after doing a very huge research of data and pieces of information, we realized that there is a tendency: Big cities, after diseases outbreak, shows a large contingent of people migrating to other parts of the country or places abroad (usually small cities) disseminating the virus.
