Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

“Is It Safe Out There”

Summary

“Is It Safe Out There?” Is an app that helps managers and public administrators define safe lockdown exit strategies through healthcare pandemic data and WHO orientations. It shows simplified charts that predict, for the next few days, parameters like infected cases, contamination rate, ICU beds available. It also shows news coverage of other regions that happened to be in the same situation days before, as well as relevant strategies and hints according to the gravity of the situation in the user’s region. With these artifacts in hand, managers and public administrators can better understand and decide which strategy to follow next.

How We Addressed This Challenge

“Is It Safe Out There” consumes constantly updated databases to make predictions of a possible outcome in the next few days for the region in which the user is located. These predictions should help decision-making for Public Agents and enterprise managers who get to decide when it is time to reopen or close doors.

How We Developed This Project

Initially we planned and prioritized the tasks backlog. Then we started the development environment configuration, a step that required a lot of  effort from the members that worked on this task because many problems happened. With the development environments ready we could start to develop the project.

The technologies used to develop the project were Angular, Spring Boot, Java and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure as host service.

The data provided in the challenge were used with intent of crossing information about Covid-19 cases and ICU hospital beds available in a specific region, allowing users to consult the output data and make decisions based on the situation in their region.

Most team members had never participated in a hackathon, and had also not worked with the development tools that were made available for the teams, so it was a great opportunity to use our previous knowledge as a base to work with these technologies and acquire experience from it.

We faced problems of lack of reference materials to deal with some situations, specially the configuration of Oracle Cloud, so we believe that if we had had more preparation about this our productivity could have been optimized. But despite this the support from the facilitators and mentors were really helpful during the event.

Project Demo

How much time ‘till we can get back to work? Will we need lockdown policies again? How’s the safest way to bring my collaborators back to work?

Enterprise managers and public administrators need data and palm-ready tools to define safe lockdown exit strategies. “Is It Safe Out There?” Is an app that addresses this problem by giving insights about the pandemics through healthcare systems data and WHO orientations.

Developed by Co-git19, a team composed by a biologist and a bunch of computer engineers, “Is it Safe Out There?“ can give you charts and previsions of what might come next, so you can safely make a plan for the next few days. Thinking about an alternation routine or home-office? We can help you plan it!

With our data usage, you can preserve lives.
