Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Take Care

Summary

We decided making an app to keep track of the infected, the people in risk of being infected and those who are not. By doing this we plan on controlling the spread of the infection and locking down as less people as we can for countries to be able to return to their normal economical and social activities.

How We Addressed This Challenge

"Take Care" is a system that integrates active cases of COVID-19 and their actual and previous locations to predict where potential infection hotspots are. It also uses active permits to regulate the population movement across the city throughout infection sampling results.

How We Developed This Project

We feel that the situation we are living right now, impacted us with the cruelty of an outdated system taking us by surprise as the situation escalated. Our approach was embedded in the need of surpassing the situation with the minimum damage possible to our economy, society and to be able to regulate things in a better way. We decided to make use of the NASA servers to allocate our main systems so we can globally reach knowledge and awareness towards it. Also, we used NASA GPS mapping to allocate map info quickly and triangulate simulations accordingly.

We approached the system first with a coating of UML design. We created a use case scenario for each activity the app covers. Also, we designed a class model, functional to the interests of the app, which through patterns can provide the best way to show the information possible. We can then begin to work into an ER modeling for our database and persistence of the data. We accordingly designed some screens of how the app works as shown in the video. Furthermore, we will develop the logic behind the application completely, using a JAVA and swift Solution for it to be as mobile as possible. We used large amounts of illustrator, CSS, Adobe XD, Architect Enterprise, IntellIJ and Xcode.

We discovered that we didn't need large sessions to achieve this, our creativity constantly flooded the brainstorming. We decided to adopt for the first time a Scrum methodology in which we would review any advancements together and review each iteration we achieved individually. We didn't encounter many problems besides the fact of not being able to be together to complete this challenge, but as it's software development, it can be done virtually anywhere that supports internet connection.
