The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Human intervention and COVID-19 navigator

Summary

The project illustrates how man contributed in spreading of COVID-19 virus across different countries. It uses a simple, easy to deal with interface consisting of a globe that visualizes different clickable countries that gives more information when clicked about how the residents helped the virus spread and some safety precautions for current residents. In addition to a real time tracker of current cases, it's also combined with an accurate translator that allows translating to multiple languages so it could be suitable for people from all around the world to take care and stay safe.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Human response to COVID-19 pandemic is one of the greatest factors affecting the rate of spread of the virus all over the world. This project illustrates the different behaviors across several countries and also spreads awareness in an easy, simple and fun way. Tracking human behaviors also provides us with simple patterns which helped us predict the possible hotspots in these countries so the residents would have the chance to follow the instructions provided in this project and prevent the virus from taking more lives.

How We Developed This Project

the team has found that human is the main factor in covid-19 spreading so creating a simple and interactive website to help him/her know : what behavior should he/she do or what shouldn't. the country instruction and a tips to keep himself/herself safe outside. we used earth observation data of population dense also NASA SEDAC application helped us a lot to get more details

the used software  is simple website with HTML,CSS and javascript with some APIs:

the used API are:

  • esri for designing the 3D earth
  • bing covid-19 status and cases counter
  • geojson library for cordinates  and points on the 3d globe

our problem that faced us was:

  • collecting data from different resources we made 7 countries for each continent as a prototype 
  • coding the article page and making it responsive
  •  collecting the instructions each countries

coding was not too hard as the prototype is simple but we are planing to add more features for the project:

  • fire fox on computer show weird behavior
  • make the site more dynamic by adding server side part to allow people to write their blogs and tips
  • add all world countries
