Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Tracking Covid-19 - Using data to save lives

Summary

Tracking Covid-19, a platform that uses data to save lives. Our solution allows us to trace an area contaminated by COVID-19. With that, health entities can use the tool to mark points of contaminated people and delimit houses and buildings around them. This makes it possible not only to trace the points of contamination, but also to trace the contamination route. Let's save the world together!

How We Addressed This Challenge

The project tries to solve the covid case notification problem. For that,

providing a platform that allows the insertion of a point that can be registered by

people from healthcare organizations with data related to positive patients. This marking allows

which algorithm identifies a possible infected area. This is possible or follow

of that region, indicates that there is a possible contamination zone.

How We Developed This Project

The team's inspiration comes from the need to save lives, using the data available by NASA for this. Propagation data for covid-19 and maps of the NASA were used to analyze our planet and how a pandemic affects it. In this way, we were able to design a solution to the notification problem of cases and identification of affected areas. For that, we use Google Maps, AWS services, Python, the OpenCV library for analyzing images and tools to create analytical graphs, such as matplotlib and seaborn. In addition, to identify patterns and predictions in Google Trends data, we use scikit-learn libraries, which has statistical methods for that. Problems are inevitable throughout the project, so we had some problems related to implementation, which made it impossible to add new features to the project. None of this affected the team's performance, the prototype was perfectly executed, with a lot of effort and dedication to deliver a solution that helps to all.

Data & Resources

1. https://data.nasa.gov/

We used it to analyze data related to covid19 and how the infection spreads around the world.

2. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html (Johns Hopkins University and medicine):

We use to complement the analysis on covid

3. Map data:

 EARTH DATA NASA: https://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/mapping/popest/covid-19/

EARTH DATA SEARCH: https://search.earthdata.nasa.gov/

- Consult relevant data on factors that may be determinant in relation to the pandemic.

Of these, data on the atmosphere (temperature) and population density were consulted. Besides that, we use NASA satellite images at night to determine large cities    and industries.
