Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Point MobU

Summary

It is an application capable of showing users the occupational density of urban areas and collecting their feedbacks about the current situation of the frequented location. This tool is intended to avoid agglomerations, spread value and build a new culture of displacement for the new moment experienced by global society. When accessing the application, the user will know in real time which locations offer the least risk of contagion.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Absolute isolation does not favor human development or the proper functioning of society. In a practical and simple way, the application guides people so that they can visit supermarkets, stores, drugstores, squares, parks and others, with the maximum reduction of risk of contagion.

How We Developed This Project

Based on the VOX study, we verified that respiratory diseases like COVID-19 proliferate very quickly and agglomerations contribute to this. However, radical isolation has a psychological impact on people, as evidenced by the studies presented in the attached articles. The team, from the beginning, wanted to deliver a solution that could revolutionize the way people move and occupy social spaces. In this sense, it created a product that contributes to the reduction of the proliferation of diseases that are easily contagious, at the same time that it applies to a new society with new habits and behaviors. The concern with the construction of value and a new culture of displacement, as well as the empathic look, are differentials in our tool. Furthermore, users can participate actively and critically, sharing information with each other and contributing to the construction of a systemic network to combat viral proliferation. All of this was thought and executed through collective work using agile methodologies (Scrum and Kanban).

We plan to create the application using React Native for hybrid mobile development (Android and iOS) and the construction of the visual identity using CSS 3 based on the prototypes created through Figma, using the FireStorm database and other Google Cloud resources such as Places, Maps and Geometry Library. In the back-end we seek to develop using Java (Spring) by consulting APIs from NASA satellites on demographic data and creating the entire application layer of business and logic rules, such as the number of people per m² to guarantee a low level of agglomeration, ensuring the good performance of the application.

During the hackathon, the biggest difficulties were: how to implement a solution that could change the population's displacement culture and how to collect data on their displacement. The idea of creating an App that can provide the construction of a new culture and engage the population to promote it, required public validation. For that, surveys was created and more than 400 responses were collected, which confirmed the population's need to access and use a tool like ours.
