Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

SOUL

Summary

Using NASA data and the census' income distribution, we identify COVID most vunerable groups. Our project, Soul, is a website that will display these communities and the users can select which NGO they will donate for.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The challenge was to find patterns between human activities and COVID cases. We estimated the population flow and density, using NASA's "black marble" data, and compared with COVID records versus census' income distribution. With this approach, we were able to identify which regions are in the most critical situations.

How We Developed This Project

Our inspiration was to connect who are willing to help those who are in need. In the construction of our product, we used a collaborative platform to discuss the ideas. We applied the methodology proposed by the organization of NASA Space Apps Brazil with deliveries during the hackathon. Our challenges were the time management, the remote work and poor wifi connection, but the team work had overcome all of these obstacles.
