Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Covid Buster

Summary

Our project aims to spot the areas with high number of infected cases and deaths to make people aware of them and avoid it; in addition, it will provide a wide data base to help people in need during the lockdown and reminders to give them some instructions to keep themselves healthy.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The project will indicate the hotspots of disease spread through the provided maps that show the world’s active, recovered, and dead cases. After analyzing the factors affecting the spread we concluded that it depends on four major areas ( health, the economy, food security and social wellbeing), so the project will have Contacts of relief to help the patients and who are suspected to catch the virus. It also will help finding the nearby pharmacies, restaurants and markets and their contacts to get what they need online. Finally, it will maintain the user's health through frequent notifications asking him to follow the precautions published by the WHO.

How We Developed This Project

This challenge will solve an important problem and we wanted to use the data that we had and collected in an appropriate way.

We believe that data is the key for identifying any challenge, so we gathered and analyzed a lot of data in order to solve this problem by using open data sources as corona tracker  to provide the app with the maps for the updates of number of cases around the globe in countries, cities and provinces and updates to make people aware of areas with high number of cases and help them by the helpful contacts we will add. We have used maps and data for population density, average population ages, poverty rates, education level and health care level from NASA covid-19 path finder, GeoHEALTH, NASA's black marble to track people activities through the lockdown and census bureau data for covid-19.

For the data(maps and instructions), we will store it in spatial data model and we will use flutter to be available at iOS and android design the app interface and provide it by animations by using android studio, and we will create a backend using python through PyCharm. The app will have data from WHO to give the user the latest advices and precautions to avoid the infection, we also will build a web scraper to scrape the latest local news and updates to cop-up with the difference of number of cases every day.

We have identified the steps of applying this app, but we could not complete it due to the shortage of time.
