Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

DITO : Right Place, Right Time, Right Here

Summary

The DITO Project aims to pilot a social distancing mobile application to isolate the virus, trace the infected individuals and observe/enforce proper social distancing. DITO stands for "Distance-Isolation app for Tracking and Observation". This solution focuses on the three major factors of virus spread, which are real time assessment, data observation and crowd assessment.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The DITO  Project is a solution to predict the next possible hot spots of possible virus infection spread using existing data, and through the use of Computer Vision aided CCTV Cameras, help in enforcing social distancing and knowing ahead of the situation of that area without going there yourself.

With this the general public and the people who are enforcing social distancing, will know ahead where are the areas without proper social distancing and plan ahead.

This will be a vital tool for the current situation and the upcoming new normal lifestyle for everyone.

How We Developed This Project

Looking at the current situation here in the Philippines , social distancing is a challenge, just like in most highly populated countries. Our authorities are having a hard time enforcing  social distancing in every establishment. We idealize a solution that would help aid the general public in conducting social distancing and for the people who are enforcing it.

by analyzing  SEDACS Data from NASA ,  existing population data from different organizations,  with comparison to infection data coming from the Department of Health of the Philippines and location data of our users,  and combining some of them into one map, we were able to derive new insights and predictions of new areas with  high population , and deem areas that will have difficulty in conducting social distancing.

We also used  CCTVs in commuting and crowded areas which we wish to  apply Tensorflow  computer vision based AI to analyze the number of people in the vicinity of the CCTV, and use these cameras as well to see if the predictions of our data is correct.

So we devised a mobile app that displays this data, which will be useful for the people who are enforcing social distancing and the people who are going to those locations for they will know ahead of the situation  with the help of our  user friendly maps and  the our real time updating feature  of the CCTV Cameras used in this project.

We used QGIS for analyzing the data from NASA and WorldPop.org, and we used React Native  and a basic web stack (HTML, CSS, Javascript) for deployment of our mobile application and displaying the data.
