Human Factors

The emergence and spread of infectious diseases, like COVID-19, are on the rise. Can you identify patterns between population density and COVID-19 cases and identify factors that could help predict hotspots of disease spread?

Summary

Within the challenge 9: Human factor, we identified the problem of lack of information about covid-19, the biggest of these problems, since misinformation can cause more people to become infected. The fact is that most people are avoiding information, mostly because the alarming number of deaths. With that, we thought of bringing useful information in a playful way with an interactive game, aimed to people wish to keep themselves informed by official data. We used a tool from scratch, programming all night, and we were able to deliver a realistic prototype. We put the player in the game as a black woman, because the group is made up of women, and we sympathize with the racist cause.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project consists of analyzing the databases provided by NASA, in addition to other databases of reliable agencies to extract useful information in order to keep our target audience informed about how human factors relate to COVID-19. The project aims to inform our audience in a fun and engaging way through an interactive game.

How We Developed This Project

What inspired our team was the limitations to obtain information on how to take care of yourself at this moment with COVID-19. With that in mind, we developed a project that addresses this in a very fun and engaging computer-related feature. We used databases provided by NASA, in addition to other databases of reliable agencies to extract useful information in order to keep our target audience informed.

In order to produce a prototype of the game we used GameMake Studio 2 as a software, to work with data from NASA and others we used R studios and Oracle.

We had a lot of problems with out internet, the group chat: discord, bugs in the game and other softwares, tiredness, limitations of knowledge.. However, now we look back and see that we learned a lot in a very short time: we had the prototype of the game in less than 24 hours, already started to anticipate the next steps, meet new people, work in a diverse team and had fun!
