An Integrated Assessment

Your challenge is to integrate various Earth Observation-derived features with available socio-economic data in order to discover or enhance our understanding of COVID-19 impacts.

Covid-19 unexpected impacts on Brazilian economy

Summary

Our project focus on future impacts in the economy caused by side effects due to isolation measures. Focusing on Brazil, we could find evidence that brazil's public health system has had an atypical number of diagnosis on medical conditions such as uterine cancer and together with other government statistics, we realized that there is a repressed demand for health services and that along with brazil's fragile economy and covid-19 impacts might make for a longer recovery.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project tries to find insights in data that wouldn't normally be brought up, it's know the economical impacts from reduction in economic activity, but analyzing other areas other than than just economic activity may make us more aware of undiserable economic impacts.

How We Developed This Project

Economical debate has been in the spotlight in brazil in the last years, our contry faced was still recovering from a recession and now with covid-19 we found ourselfs worse than before, that why we wanted to understand better what is happening and why. To have a better understanding we went after both brazilians data about the state of our economy as well as NASA's data to understand where Brazil is internationally on this pandemic. Our team was able to find evidence of a repressed demand that might impact the recovering of our economy, we expect that our optic may be exported to other developing countries in order to better understand where we are and where we are going.
