Our project fits in the challenge number #12, “An Integrated Assessment”, for being exactly what we would like to work with: cross-linking socioeconomic data of economically similar countries and Earth observations of these places. Comparing countries, we are able to understand how the impacts of Covid-19 could have been amended if different approaches had been adopted to handle the virus spreading. Since our tool can provide better comprehension of the effectiveness of all anti-covid actions and the short-term outcome on the Economy.
Our team’s inspiration came from our willingness to contribute to a better understanding of the real effectiveness of actions to fight Covid-19 throughdata analysis to simulate ideal scenarios. Because of that, we chose challenge #12, “an integrated assessment”, and we discussed together how to approach the problem without a biased view, dealing scientifically with the situation using data from WHO and NASA. From NASA, we applied a comparison between periods before and during the pandemic time in relation to gases emission such as CO2 and NO2, in order to check if there was a change in these levels, suggesting that the population was respecting social distancing measures. For this purpose, our group idealized the project’s concept crossing Power BI-generated charts and displaying it on the platform called “Figma”. We hope to change the wrong beliefs related to the effectiveness (or not) of social distancing measures and their short term impacts on the country’s Economy. Simulations can be built to show ideal scenarios in which more lives and jobs would be saved.
