An Integrated Assessment

Your challenge is to integrate various Earth Observation-derived features with available socio-economic data in order to discover or enhance our understanding of COVID-19 impacts.

Transmission and Distribution Analysis of SARS-CoV-2 with the help of GIS Technology in India region

Summary

The first case of COVID-19 in India, which emerged from China, was reported on 30 January 2020. According to the press release of the 31st May 2020 by the Ministry of Home and Family Welfare (GoI-MoHFW), there are a total of 182,143 confirmed COVID-19 cases in India. The focus of this research is to analyze the spatial distribution of COVID-19 and its trends in transmissions with the help of GIS technology and providing an assessment of COVID-19 impacting Indian Socioeconomic growth.

How We Addressed This Challenge

BACKGROUND

GIS is an evergreen technology that is and will be helpful for human-kind, Since the start of COVID-19 it is decorating the country's socioeconomic day by day and it's sure post-pandemic it's going to be much harder for individuals and companies to maintain their routines.

SOLUTION

With the help of this challenge we can track the impact of covid 19 and its transmission.to get solution to overcome this problem we have first taken the cases on a state level and checked the mobility rate of different states and compared it with the testing laboratories in each particular state whether it sufficient as per active cases or not and if not where the testing should be increased to minimize the transmission of covid 19.

How We Developed This Project
  1. COVID-19 Corona virus is now one of the most epidemic diseases that are recently came upon and it is transmitted across the China in 2019 and has received a global consciousness.Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial mapping are emerging global health tools. And sowe are all from Remote Sensing and GIS background we can use this technology to show how COVID-19 transmit in India, and also make a path that shows Health Facility Services like COVID hospitals, testing laboratories in a specific region. Also we can predict and suggest how socio economic condition of India has affected after this pandemic situation by this technology.
  2. By this project our approach is that GIS have a lot of useful tools to map and visualise this pandemic situation that shows the spatial distribution of COVID-19. And we also shows that the potential risk factor and the resource available for fighting and prevention from this disease.
  3. Space agency like NASA, JAXA, ESA closely observe this pandemic situation and we use the physical data provide by the SEDAC and WHO to make graphs and visualise it on maps. And we also visualise the network analysis map that shows the Health service points region wise. It is a challenge for us to use the space agency data like satellite images. But for time shortage we won’t be able to use the satellite images to predict the suitable weather conditions to spread this virus at a pick level.
  4. We mainly use ArcgisPro to visualise maps with physical data and for coding use python language with various geospatial libraries. But in lack of time we couldn’t apply these libraries in our project. But in Arcgis we use Network analysis tools.
  5. The main objective of our project is to analyze the spatial distribution of COVID-19 and its trends in transmissions with the help of GIS technology.

Achievements:-

  • We visualize the total active cases in India till 30th may.
  • We predict Mobility rate of covid-19 in India state wise till 30th may
  • We also visualize Testing labs and their locations.
  • At last we also predict total Covid-19 transmission cases, recovered cases and death cases.
  • And We also visualize Total Covid cases and the Lab testing locations provided by ICMR.

Data & Resources

For transmission and distribution analysis of covid 19 the dataset  used is from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Government of India and SEDAC data. The data is analysed and with the help of Arcgis pro maps are created which shows how covid 19 is spreading in india.
