We saw the big picture being projected by a large number of cases in the world's most powerful nations. And upon looking closer at the epicenter of regional outbreaks, it was an almost every time localized in a huge metropolis. Looking further at the trail left by the spread of the virus, we encountered situations such as in São Paulo, where the richer districts are the first to get infect, seeing that are the ones that travel the most, and as soon as they got infect they shrug it off, due to a lot of variables, such as the monetary capability for better health treatment and most of this population is composed by the ones whom jobs allow work from home strategies to be applied. After, the spread trail leads to "Favelas" in some cases, and other peripheric regions, where the lack of infrastructure, bank stock, and other basic sanitary needs make it impossible to follow any kind of virus mitigation strategies.
After knowing all of this we worked on a solution for the reasons for these situations, some of them are, inequality on the geographic division of bank stock, lack of social welfare and tax incentive program for the more vulnerable socioeconomic groups of society, and some level of segregation when it comes to the buildout of information.
So our platform aims to tackle this problem at its core, by providing information about the new coronavirus Sars-Cov 2 (Covid-19) in a concise and forward way, laying out the problem in a wider manner for those in charge, this way aiding them on the decision making of new policies, also we gather several initiatives that focus on the resolution of such problem and separate them by locals, thus and so uniting the ones with the urge to help on the fight against inequality and the incentive fronts.
Nowadays the gap between rich and the poor is very clear and when facing a global pandemic the government alignment is tested. Even though the main function of the state is to maintain the well being of its citizens by making sure that they have access to health care, security and education of quality, without cost and at any time. Such resources became more valuable in these times, especially for the ones that are not privileged. But when under a crisis the system tends to support the wealthier side of the society, giving them preference on testing, due to the monetary capacity of acquiring it, and when it comes to the spread of information, sometimes not even willingly. During these times the demographic dilemma of the huge metropolises comes to light, due to a long and historic process the outflow of people from the center of the cities to the "Favelas" and other peripheric communities that are isolated, not only geographically, but regarding aiding policies on the fight against the new coronavirus. Our project aims to even this playfield and achieves balance/equality when it comes to the policies that are tackling this world problem of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The object of our project is to spread knowledge to this said less favored locals in an uncomplicated and concise way and aid the ones in charge to visualize this sort of data to help in the decision making afterward. With the right amount and constancy in the input of data, it can become a viable tool for all countries, since the spread of the coronavirus Sars-Cov 2 is an issue for all nations, and unlike the nowadays structure of society and politicians, the virus does not discriminate, it affects everyone directly or indirectly.
Each place has its channel of news and method of spreading it, but what it lacks its the information, that some times gets scattered and does not get to the final target group, or worst its misread and miss spread by intermediaries compilers. But with direct data from NASA, we can provide valid data with a minimal error percentage.
Where others wore not so successful we will fill that gap and provide information for all in favor of equal treatment for everyone and in minimizing the impacts of the pandemic, while a vaccine is still underway.
We used WHO and UE data to compare the global situation with the country we use as an object of study (we aim to work with more countries in the future), Brazil, and understand the complications that lead the country to be in this current situation within the pandemic.
We had communication problems in the beginning, within the team, and for validation with politicians. However, as the project progresses, we can have a more humane vision in this chaotic pandemic scenario that the world is experiencing.
