An Integrated Assessment

Your challenge is to integrate various Earth Observation-derived features with available socio-economic data in order to discover or enhance our understanding of COVID-19 impacts.

antiDOT

Summary

Since the begginig of the pandemic, many companies and organizations developed tools related to facing COVID-19. It’s time to UNITE this efforts with antiDOT: at the same time, attend the most basic civilian necessities and provide the most complete data compilation, crossing and processing information at the user's will. The users will also be able to share their own data to the system, that will classify it by accuracy and relevance, creating this Global solidary and collaborative environment!

How We Addressed This Challenge

The antiDOT application fits the challenge of integrated analysis since its objective is to develop a complete tool – in every way – for observation of the current situation of Covid-19 in the world.
...from the most basic features...

AntiDOT will function as a GPS-based platform, with a main interactive and intuitive map, on which users can navigate according to their interests. There are many examples of software that support the viability of this system, starting with Google Maps (2, 5, 7, 12). The first idea and most basic feature that we can present is real-time information about demography: as the users can share location with the App, along status of the people can also be shared: if they are suspected of infection by COVID-19, if they are sick, healthy and, in a brief future, we hope, vaccinated.
It will be possible to analyze from a small area to encompass the world as a whole, bringing current news from everywhere, may that be the number of dead, cured, new ways of treatment, etc.
...to complex and professional overlapping data!

Since the beginning of the pandemic, many companies and organizations developed amazing tools for diverse purposes related to facing COVID-19 (1, 3, 10). It’s time to unite these efforts with antiDOT. Pre-existing systems from global and local communities, when based in GPS, are already linked with antiDOT by the World coordinate system.

The data contained in these previous projects can be uploaded to the system and added to the main map at the user's will and Collaborative Public (4, 6, 9, 14). It will be possible to log in as a personal or a professional user: companies, researchers, and others. The modalities will define the accuracy and relevance of the information uploaded by the Users, to protect the veracity of the data.
The options of features make this App dynamic, capable to assist the most complex purposes of researchers, the survival of companies that are threatened by the pandemic scenario, and even the most simple task of civilians, such as buying food with safety.

The user will be able to navigate through the adjustment of filters through the interaction bars of the application, selecting the display options of the various data (13, 15). The main map of the application will be modified in favor of the best visualization for the purpose of the user.

For individuals interests, there will be data from: product offers, options (facilitating the commerce and shopping), places with an agglomeration of people and their personal health status, risk group and other valuable information related to COVID-19 (if they choose to share it),  then the Press will be able to link their News to the respective area or point. There are priorities, but there are no limits! From health care to leisure options to spend time in quarantine, such as the dissemination of books, live shows, films, games, and new releases.
For business, there will be an emphasis on data from: Inventory and supply of products and self-employed micro-companies/entrepreneurs, so that they continue to promote their products and the community in the area can help their salespeople (8, 11). This shall help the survival of small establishments and others, that are threatened by the Pandemic Crisis.

For the Science Community, with the combination of the knowledge accumulated in the supportive platform, new investigations can be performed by the explorers of antiDOT, overlapping layers of different information and them, exporting it for their preferential software for further analysis.

Through antiDOT, Civic Population and Professional Entities can have a better understanding of the situation in which we find ourselves, to know the best way to act and face, as a community, COVID-19.

How We Developed This Project

Who are we, how we come to this?

A veterinary student who faces cases of illness, treatment, and services; an oceanography student who constantly deals with numbers on informational maps, bringing together knowledge not only from a community but from the entire ecosystem and an art student who can put ideas on paper and bring colors and creativity to the project: three girls who, in the current global pandemic context, grabbed the opportunity offered by NASA to put all of its knowledge into practice in an attempt to mitigate the series of problems that COVID19 has brought, as fast as false news rapidly spread.

In this way, naREDE team was formed thinking about how to process all the vast information we are exposed to every day, and categorize all that data by accuracy, based on the sources: Governments, Health Organizations, and Agencies, Companies, Researchers and Civilians, for example. Of course, we reached an agreement that reliability is relative: every person has something reliable to share. Be it the simple sharing of our location and health status, to help others avoid more crowded places.

Expanding this idea, we got worried about also supporting the lady who needs help to do her shopping; a young man who is monitoring the number of cases in his region; a child looking for distractions; a family worried with isolation measures within its home; be a company that is having difficulties in sales… After all, we are all Earthlings and we are all facing COVID-19 crisis. This Planet covers us all with holistic mechanisms, from which we cannot escape as a Global Community.

Fundamentals

Therefore, this can and must be achieved through the development of collaborative science, as well as data visualization and geoprocessing. Then, searches began for reliable platforms for accessing updated socio-economic data linked to COVID19, as well as for functional websites and applications that use interactive maps, as well as NASA - the necessary basis, then, to fit into the Challenge Assessment Integrated.

Thinking of the user's approach to the platform, the user can be an information agent: inserting his data into the application, that will process and categorize it by, first, accuracy, based on the source of the information, and second, relevance, linked, of course, with the area the user will be exploring: global or regional.

With the data accumulated by the supportive environment, new investigations can be performed by the explorers of antiDOT, overlapping layers of different information and them, exporting it for their preferential softwares for further analysis.

There are no limits when talking about what a United Earth can do! Every Earth Citizen can collaborate. Global and local companies, institutes, organizations, and others, that have already developed free tools that use Geoprocessing Data for facing COVID-19 can also add their achievements to antiDOT System, since they are already linked on their basis, by the Coordinate Systems.

However, a major difficulty encountered by the team is the lack of practice with the programming area. This prevents it from taking a more practical approach to the application, such as defining applicable software or hardware.

Nevertheless, the application manages to bring various information that can be filtered according to the interest of those who use it, helping to avoid agglomerations, unnecessary exits or exacerbated concerns, keeping not only the mind but the body healthy - all in the reach of your hand.

It’s time to UNITE all the efforts against the pandemic with antiDOT, a project from naREDE team.

A GPS-based collaborative plataform, that attend the most basic civilian necessities and provide the most complete data compilation for researchers, companies and authorities.

The user defines the complexity of the data and features to be overlapping, and the system will process and categorize data by accuracy and relevance, making antiDOT a complet, dinamic and realiable tool.
