Our project provides a new way for individuals to connect while in quarantine. It's a safe, way to workout and create deeper connections with friends and loved ones. Research has proven that social interaction can decrease cortisol levels which helps with better muscle development. Social interaction WHILE exercising not only assists with more effectively building muscle mass, it also reduces the risks of depression, boosts energy and improve overall well being.
We chose this project because we are all currently experiencing social isolation and wanted a practical solution that we could use to solve our own problem. As part of the project, we analyzed satellite imagery data of gym parking lots using Planet Explorer. The imagery clearly show the lack of gym attendance due to stay at home orders. In addition, we also also used articles by Nasa on astronaut bone/muscle loss and social isolation initiatives as a reference.
Our approach included an initial brainstorming session, followed by rapid prototyping. The developers on our team then created a repository in Github where the iOS MVP app was developed using the Swift programming language. The tight deadline presented a challenge in finishing up deliverables in the quality that we wanted it, we also faced some technical challenges with our computing devices but at the end of the day we still hoped to have delivered a winning solution.
