Social distancing policies enacted the world over during the COVID-19 pandemic have left many people socially isolated. Your challenge is to develop innovative solutions to combat social isolation.

Summary

Giving a high recognition of NASA's database and API's, Friendly is a mobile app that allows a user to have better of both worlds: tech and simulated analog interaction with people. How come? First of all, the user enters topics of its interest, so he can chat with people with the same mindset and create/review challenges called "Quarantine Olympics" to activate motor skills and contact with household beings. Then, if the user wants a deeper interaction, can ask for a call or schedule one if possible with a user, just like the old days! Each time a user makes a call or completes a challenge, earns a moon rock. Given 10 moon rocks, a funny fact about astronomy is given!

How We Addressed This Challenge

Friendly is a platform based on the necessity to connect with people in a transcendent way.

This application was inspired by a very basic human need that keeps us flowing on the mental healthiness, the necessity to connect with other people and share information, to create links between us, and keep our minds focused and with constant feedback. As the main goal of our app, we try to potentiate the productivity providing an incentive for the user and trying to foment the social interaction and the constant search for knowledge. This solution seeks to counteract the mental repercussions on a long term isolation environment.

How We Developed This Project

Our inspiration, after all, it's our own and familiars or closer friends experience right now. Adapting through this new way of interaction has made almost every person on the planet interact in different ways and also have inner reflections about its own mental/emotional/physical needs. Social distancing and social interactions are so relevant as humans that turns out pretty interesting to know about astronauts' isolation cases/preparation.

We kept an eye on basically two relevant concepts for them: Keeping themselves active in a beneficial/proactive way, and figuring out somehow a closer sensorial interaction even in isolation. That's why we are making - only calls no text chat - as our push to keep it personalized for everyone to communicate again, which would be our principal exposed insights about countermeasure development for astronauts on long-duration spaceflights. Incentive's topic seems to us equally relevant to maintain the attention, motivation, and perseverance of users for their own growth by developing new skills virtually surrounded by new people. We used NASA'S data to arrive at mental-health during isolation with the five mental states that are mentioned. and also AstronomyPictureOfTheDay (APOD) API's for the incentives we give by completing challenges or calling other people.
