The Isolation Solution

Social distancing policies enacted the world over during the COVID-19 pandemic have left many people socially isolated. Your challenge is to develop innovative solutions to combat social isolation.

Habit

Summary

The Habit is a mobile application that stimulates the users to practice new activities and actions using ludification concepts. Users will receive several daily challenges, and by completing these challenges they will get a score and will be able to compare with their friends's activities, making the experiences not only dynamic, but also fun, healthy and competitive.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The Habit focus on making the period of social reclusion a little less difficult. The human being is a social being and the distance from his/her closest ones causes negative consequences, such as anxiety and loneliness. Moreover, the atmosphere of uncertainty caused by the moment contributes more to this picture. Thus, the encouragement of new activities can take some of the focus away from this difficult moment. A mobile application with a competitive and healthy system that aims to bring people together through the sharing of new and fun experiences can be an efficient solution to this problem. However, there are still topics to think about such as more rewards and methods of engagement to make the user want to continue using the application.

How We Developed This Project

The information provided by space agencies was of great importance in conceiving the idea that after being thought through, would become the Habit project, and was also essential to help justify it as a viable concept. The data that were most useful were about the period of isolation experienced by astronauts in space missions and the ways they find to fight the negative effects caused by the period away from their loved ones. Such data will also be used to feed the project, providing it with information for activities.

The work has been divided into themes and small tasks have been created to accelerate development. Among the tools used we can mention: Visual Code, Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop, Flaticon, Dafont and Wondershare Filmora9 and the following development languages: html, css, javascript.

During the development, the main difficulties were in the conception phase, but once the ideas of the group were organized, throughout the rest of the development, there were no major difficulties.
