The Isolation Solution

Social distancing policies enacted the world over during the COVID-19 pandemic have left many people socially isolated. Your challenge is to develop innovative solutions to combat social isolation.

NASA Stay Home

Summary

NASA Stay Home is a website that seeks to reduce the effects of social isolation through scientific communication. The goal is to build a gamified platform, with scoring and levels schemes, where the users will have challenges to play with his friends based on posts about NASA curiosities. In addition, we propose to bring science communicators, who are living on or off the Earth, on our platform to share their experiences and daily lives. Thus, people will be encouraged to don’t be isolated, but in a safer way.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The project addresses the topic of social isolation of people who live on or off the Earth, promoting interactions through challenges between friends or scientists.

How We Developed This Project

Isolation is a challenge that we are all experiencing at the pandemic crisis and this has inspired us to find a viable solution to this situation.

Based on the topic of isolation, we did research and found articles from NASA and pubmed about what mental health consequences social isolation can cause to understand the situation more solidly. After this step, we did an ideation stage, brainstorming with the group and selecting the best ideas to solve the problem. With the ideas selected, we were able to proceed with their structuring and prototyping, seeking feedbacks to validate our ideas. The design is mobile first.

Then, we divided the team to develop the website, develop the slides, the pitch and the structuring of the texts that we use in these processes.

The main tools we used in our project were NASA's API's, git, github and the application was developed in JavaScript, HTML and CSS. We are studying the implementation of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Planet Labs and Neustar. The roadmap is in the github repository (https://github.com/Group-Hacka/NASASPACEAPPS-n.s.h.). We are in the first version.
