The Isolation Solution

Social distancing policies enacted the world over during the COVID-19 pandemic have left many people socially isolated. Your challenge is to develop innovative solutions to combat social isolation.

Solaria

Summary

Our challenge is to propose solutions to the main emotional triggers caused by social isolation, based on scientific studies. Just as NASA astronauts are trained to live and work in the isolation on the space, and other types of professionals are also experienced in supporting social isolation, we want to make these studies and trainings possible for users here on Earth, in a simple and easy language understanding. Bring them real research, and show that in a situation of isolation, some triggers are common, proposing tips to alleviate them, as well as providing contacts for people who feel the need for professional help.

How We Addressed This Challenge

According to several scientific studies carried out by NASA, training by astronauts to deal with social isolation has been proven to be the way to live together during a period of confinement. We believe that this data can be used as a source of information, and passed on in the form of tips, to different profiles of people facilitating understanding. As we are a social species, contact with the other is necessary. Therefore, Solaria will be able to improve life on land and abroad and thus minimize the consequences and worsening mental state.

How We Developed This Project

The impact of social isolation on people's lives is not yet widely known, people are being forced to experience it for the first time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but unlike the majority of the population, many professionals have much to tell us teach about isolation, including NASA astronauts who are the target of numerous studies that help them deal with isolation and confinement in a healthy way. Our inspiration came from the desire to understand how these professionals are trained.

Through a web app we intend to bring the information contained in NASA studies and other scientific articles to the general public in a didactic manner that reaches the largest portion of the population, reaching people with low education to people with a high level of education. Our application brings the information in a didactic way giving the user the possibility to know more, or to seek tips about the impacts of the studies presented and to have access to psychological help to be able to deal with aspects little understood by him of isolation.

The data used will be studies on the impacts of isolation on astronauts. All of these studies will be incorporated into our application and presented to the general public in a didactic way, giving them the possibility to seek additional information.

The development during the Hackathon was a prototype, in the other stages of the project, in order to easily store the data of the users, the scientists mentioned will need to develop the page its design and logic with HTML, CSS and Javascript, for access to the ease in manipulating and store data and domain:
