Social distancing policies enacted the world over during the COVID-19 pandemic have left many people socially isolated. Your challenge is to develop innovative solutions to combat social isolation.

Summary

Astronauts and scientists spend long periods in isolation during research and missions. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic generated social distance widely and with it psychological problems such as anxiety, stress and depression were aggravated or even started in people who did not have a clinical case. For this reason Artenix was created: an application prototype that aims to promote interaction and dialogue between users, through artistic expression, creating a support and inspiration network.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our challenge was "The Isolation Solution", which aims to develop possible solutions for the effects of social distance in the psychological and communication spheres.

With this in mind, through our app, we can help to reduce the mental disorders caused and aggravated by social isolation, by aiming at bringing people together in a more empathetic and affectionate way, easing the feeling of loneliness provided by this social isolation.

How We Developed This Project

Looking at the consequences that social isolation has brought to our own community and to ourselves, we understand the importance of choosing this challenge and trying to solve it, in order to improve the lives of other people and ours as well, encouraging dialogue and online interaction through our app. Furthermore, from our own experiences, members of our team who suffer from anxiety and depression, experienced the harms of this distance and how important and comforting art has become in these moments of crisis.

Our approach was to create an application that connects people during this pandemic and that provides communication through artistic expression, in order to ease the feeling of loneliness and depression, thus improving people's lives. We used NASA data as arguments, especially the articles of SIRIUS, made by Human Research Program, for creating our app, in a survey that shows the experience That astronauts experience in their space travel because of their social distance, just like us during this pandemic, in addition, we use images of this same space agency as examples in our presentation.

Our team was already very well articulated and we organized ourselves earlier, thinking about the project and the separation of tasks. Our only problem was in choosing the challenge, which did not match our idea for the application, so we switched to the one that was more specific to our idea.
