WorkFromBed has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!
Social distancing is hard for all of us, so we decided to create a website, different from existing ones, with features made specifically for those, looking for help, tips, entertainment and connections during these times. First part of our project provides different health information, as well as tips from mental health professionals and astronauts. Second part invites users to analyze how their situation right now could be similar to astronauts in space and offers to play interactive space game called “Become an astronaut”. Second part also introduces self-tests, similar to the one’s astronauts take, to evaluate users’ productivity, reaction time, etc. Third part is a platform for users to combat loneliness and connect to others, based on the interests and thoughts related to isolation.
Inspiration: Everyone is experiencing this problem and it affects us directly, but it’s not a new issue. Astronauts have been experiencing isolation for years, what interested us the most was their ways of working and living in limited space with a team and isolated from their usual lifestyle and their families while being productive.
Approach: we decided to create a website prototype, but in the future, we are planning to create a web page, which we already have an electronic/paper model.
Data: we used NASA and ESA data in the creation of a simulation of astronaut's day: routine, various tasks, and problems they face. In visualizing their daily life, we used photos from ISS.
Tools: online modeling platform Balsamiq.cloud
Problems and achievements: we successfully created a model of a future web page, the demo version of the game, which could be useful not only for a regular citizen but also for training future astronauts (if developed further). We lacked time, so weren’t able to create the real working demo version of our web page, however, we would love to develop it in the future.
