A New Perspective

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, protected areas and other forms of wilderness areas (e.g., arboretums, beaches, parks, marine monuments) have been closed worldwide. Your challenge is to lead the effort to examine any potential impacts of reduced human traffic in such local protected natural environments.

Project Iurukua

Summary

Our technology consists of monitoring marine animals through Artificial Intelligence and Lot (Internet of Things), based on a platform working together with the government so that they have a control of such species and are warned about future events, as the spawning of turtles on their beaches, thus diminishing the chances of an aggression to the ecosystem and avoiding thousands of deaths.

How We Addressed This Challenge

"A New Perspective" addresses the possible impacts of reducing human traffic in places that are protected natural ecosystems, our work has been to analyze such changes in marine animal life. Because with the fall of human actions hundreds of turtles returned to the beaches, the emission of pollutants fell 17% in the world which contributed to the pollution and acidification of the oceans, and there was the reduction of tons of garbage found in protected environments. And our project aims to maintain the welfare and protection of animals, monitoring them and preventing the beaches from being polluted and overcrowded during their arrival.

How We Developed This Project

We were inspired by the importance of preserving the ecosystem for the balance of life on the planet. We approach data that prove how much human presence has affected the development of marine life and how the environment presented positive impacts after the beginning of isolation. We used satellite data, maps and information to prove the changes suffered by the ecosystem with the reduction of human traffic, such as the reduction of pollutant gases and the existing satellite Calypso. We use the software Figma, Adobe Ilustrator and Kdenlive for the elaboration of the project, in addition to the open data that NASA made available to us. In the course of development we face problems to find our real purpose since the initial ideas would not make a big difference as the project we have now.
