A New Perspective

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, protected areas and other forms of wilderness areas (e.g., arboretums, beaches, parks, marine monuments) have been closed worldwide. Your challenge is to lead the effort to examine any potential impacts of reduced human traffic in such local protected natural environments.

Coviroment

Summary

Our Project is website that emphasis on how COVID19-Quarantine influence our environment by displaying study cases through articles and maps captured through satellites. Connecting the lock down's impact with numerous nature aspects to show the population how their activities can influence the environment either in negative or positive way, and this appeared in water and land and the entire ecosystem.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our website demonstrates the positive and negative impacts of the COVID-19 quarantine which has limited most of the human's daily activities. This demonstration is in the form of articles and images captured by satellites on various dates. Every article makes these effects come to light in the form of study cases that link the impact on the environment with the lockdown. All the study cases are supported by data retrieved from trusted resources like NASA's websites, and scientific basis to link the data to the limitation of the human activities. This website is simple and easy to use, accessible to everyone.

How We Developed This Project

Our team is very passionate about the environment, and we get constantly frustrated by the human doings that harm our planet, so we chose this challenge to show the people how limiting their activities has affected the planet in mostly good ways. We have heard some news about the improving environment, and this made us chose this challenge to explore these improving and show them to the world. We started our research from the resources provided with the challenge which has helped us a lot in getting real-time trusted data. The websites we mostly used NASA worldview and earth observatory. We captured images and studied the differences between the environmental information at the beginning of 2020 in January until mid-May. After we collected our data we started building our website that will show the world our results and, we used Wix.com to build it, and then we inputted our data and articles. We faced some problems at first since we're a bit confused about how to find the data we needed in our resources but eventually, we figured it out. We have successfully built the website and displayed all of our data correctly.

Data & Resources
  • ESA: Used to see the images show one of the effects of the locked-down city of Venice that shown in clearer water.
  • NASA earth observatory: Used to compare the number of fires in April by using images from (VIIRS) on the Suomi NPP and collecting information about the effect of nightlight on animals.
  • EOSDIS NASA worldview: Used to capture various demographics of the earth through different time with different informative layers.
