A New Perspective

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, protected areas and other forms of wilderness areas (e.g., arboretums, beaches, parks, marine monuments) have been closed worldwide. Your challenge is to lead the effort to examine any potential impacts of reduced human traffic in such local protected natural environments.

The Turtle Project

Summary

It is a more efficient, inexpensive, fast and sustainably ecological transport mechanism that proposes to minimize the impacts caused by human action in marine ecosystems, using the use of submerged tunnels for the transport of goods (loads), with the technique of magnetic levitation. The impacts would be minimized due to the reduction of maritime vessels for imports and exports, preservation of local ecosystems without the intervention of invasive species that travel in vessels, speed in intercontinental transport and reduction in the value of freight due to the reduction of time and cost of the process.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The challenge chosen was - A New Perspective -, which seeks to analyze the impact of human absence in some areas of the globe due to the emergence of Covid-19. Our project took into account the ocean areas that were affected by the current situation. Through the impacts caused by vessels in the ocean areas, oil spills, our visa project maintains a human absence in the ocean, achieved in the quarantine situation.

How We Developed This Project

The idea came up with the discussion about the environmental impact on the ocean environment, the probability of contamination, by the movement of element between different ecosystems, and the stagnation in imports caused by the pandemic crisis of COVID-19, after the closure of port activities across the globe. We were inspired by the Sankei tunnel project in Japan.

We decided to build a informative site, which presents the product and uploads data about the project:

[https://turtleproject.azurewebsites.net/] - Informative Website

We’ve made use of the maps/ charts tools and analysis reports provided by “Giovanni”, to check the constitution of some components in ocean waters, gain insight into the human impact on the marine environment. We’ve started to develop an alternative to the degradation of the environments due to transport by marine routes. Our team by a row used maritime and global maps, adopting external extensions to acquire the maritime routes / navigations frequency and adopt a prototype of the route for the project.

We’ve used: The Visual Studio 2019 development tool was used to create the informational website the language used was C# with JavaScript and the base of HTML and CSS.

We also utilized Giovanni tools, Office of Coast Survey, ArcGIS, WorldPop, MarineTraffic,Photoshop,Sketchup 2017 and GoogleMaps.

We've had some problems dealing with
-Cost Definition

-Scale and Objective range

-Possible cheapening of the project

-monitoring
