Purify the Air Supply

Has your time spent indoors increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of stay-at-home and shelter-in-place policies worldwide? Your challenge is to use the International Space Station (ISS) as inspiration and develop a system to monitor and/or purify indoor air. It is entirely up to you whether the system you design is able to be used on Earth (for example in homes, businesses, transportation, etc.) and/or in space.

Higia - Clean Air

Summary

Thinking about habits and concerns brought about by the pandemic period, and new ones that may still appear in the post-pandemic, we gathered our different knowledge and developed an air purifier, Higia clean air, offering sensors that estimate the quality of this environment and those that lend them . Any project that uses accessible technology, Arduino and low-cost materials.The purifier selected three filters, with different functions: UV light, to remove biological pollutants from the environment; PET wool, for detention of particulate material; Activated carbon for coffee, for retention or carbon dioxide.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Increasing the safety of people who work or need to attend / use essential services such as: hospitals, pharmacies, markets, etc.), thus, we monitor and eliminate chemical, physical, biological contaminants (the latter focusing on the elimination of Sar-Cov-2).

How We Developed This Project

Choose challenge 8, purifying the air supply, due to the current need for the COVID-19 pandemic and concerns about the post-pandemic scenario;
We know the skills and abilities of each member of the team;
We use the data from the space agency to compare with the data obtained by our sensors, we carry out a comparison of the external air and internal air variables;
We face difficulties in finding and using NASA data, and difficulties in finding non-aggressive desifectants for human skin.
