Purify the Air Supply

Has your time spent indoors increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of stay-at-home and shelter-in-place policies worldwide? Your challenge is to use the International Space Station (ISS) as inspiration and develop a system to monitor and/or purify indoor air. It is entirely up to you whether the system you design is able to be used on Earth (for example in homes, businesses, transportation, etc.) and/or in space.

GhostBuster Simple Air Purification System

Summary

The group's project was develop a simple air purification system to increase transport safety, which need be integrated with an existing ventilation system, removing microorganisms from the environment through a filtering system, composed of three layers, a physical barrier , a heating center composed of two ceramic pieces involving a temperature increase coil and a system to posteriorly decrease the air temperature, using the ISS air renewal model as the main inspiration.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We believe that the project have the potential to make transport safer against viruses and thus make  passengers safer. With that, we think that the chosen challenge “Global impact” are ideal for the project, as it has the potential to change the entire ventilation system of all transport on earth.

How We Developed This Project

The main inspiration for choosing the project was the formation of the team, where most of them are formed by engineers. And we all have the desire for a challenge, and consequently, a solution, as in the example of air purifiers, where it involves a lot of the where it involves a lot of the technical part of the problem to reach the solution.
