Purify the Air Supply

Has your time spent indoors increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of stay-at-home and shelter-in-place policies worldwide? Your challenge is to use the International Space Station (ISS) as inspiration and develop a system to monitor and/or purify indoor air. It is entirely up to you whether the system you design is able to be used on Earth (for example in homes, businesses, transportation, etc.) and/or in space.

Wandy - GoodAirPaths

Summary

Our project entitled “Wandy - GoodAirPath” seeks to denote and explain the air quality in the environment in which the Sensor was placed. It is a robot that measures the amount of gases harmful to human health in closed environments, especially homes, public transport, hospitals and the like. The innovation of the apparatus is the use of comparative data, which shows whether a given environment has a greater quantity of a gas than the average of the region where it is located. If an abnormality is shown, the robot will sound an alarm, drawing the attention of its user.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Not only do Space Stations have a need for improved and monitored air, but everyday environments as well. With that in mind and worrying about people's well-being, GoodAirPaths has devised a way to closely monitor the air quality of people who spend a lot of time indoors and with little ventilation.

How We Developed This Project

We try to maintain a simple approach
We use Figma to test possible application screens.
We used google docs a lot to develop the project ideas and documents.

For modeling Wandy we used solidworks.

A problem we had was time, we did had enough time to build the idea but it sure wasn't enough time to show the idea

Data & Resources

Initially, there will be data collection on Wandy. Soon after this step, a search for data will be done by the same and the levels of CO (carbon monoxide) and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide) in that region will be compared with that environment via discnrt1.gesdisc.eosdis.nasa.gov and Earthdata Search, respectively. It is worth remembering that gases like these can aggravate pre-existing respiratory diseases such as asthma. In addition, Wandy will also warn excess other pollutants in the environment as larger particles using the Earthdata Search dataset and cooking gas with suitable sensors.
