Purify the Air Supply

Has your time spent indoors increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of stay-at-home and shelter-in-place policies worldwide? Your challenge is to use the International Space Station (ISS) as inspiration and develop a system to monitor and/or purify indoor air. It is entirely up to you whether the system you design is able to be used on Earth (for example in homes, businesses, transportation, etc.) and/or in space.

Summary

We are using plants and calcium chloride in order to purify indoor air

How We Addressed This Challenge

Because of the increasing concentrations in CO2 and H2O in closed areas air, we decided to make simple, affordable and great shaped purifier.

How We Developed This Project

We were wondering about the way that the ISS is being supplied with air while its 500 meters above the earth. So we used NASA open data and we found out that the use a method called Electrolysis and that led us to discover that even here on earth we are being supplied by O2 with the exact same method, but with natural purifiers which are "plants"! To build up our prototype we used DHT sensor, Soil moisture sensor, CO2 sensor, Servo motor and an LCD to check that everything is proceeding well. As a result, we concluded with natural, sustainable, zero waste and affordable system.
