Purify the Air Supply

Has your time spent indoors increased during the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of stay-at-home and shelter-in-place policies worldwide? Your challenge is to use the International Space Station (ISS) as inspiration and develop a system to monitor and/or purify indoor air. It is entirely up to you whether the system you design is able to be used on Earth (for example in homes, businesses, transportation, etc.) and/or in space.

A New Air Purification Plant Model

Summary

Our project consists of three components. They are an extractor fan that works with the battery, metal wire painted with titanium dioxide which will purify the air from harmful gases, therefore, water and carbon dioxide will be produced as byproducts and the silica gel will absorb the water and let the air pass than with a plant that will purify the air from carbon dioxide the other gases like Trichloroethylene.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We have intensified our efforts to work with the best and most practical structure and materials available for the project of the present and the future. Here we are working to solve the problem of the present and benefit in the future. NASA to amend and add our own touch to their amazing efforts, get excited to smoke inside the formation of our device, so it consists of three stages and we put these stages below a plant that purify the air to help us with the last step in our system. The first stage is a fan hood that works with the battery and it is small enough to purify the air of a room to draw The right quantities of air and enter it to pass on the second stage, which are several very thin walls of minerals that are coated with tiny holes coated with tio2, which represents titanium dioxide as an effective photocatalyst for the destruction of volatile organic compounds (VOC), NOx and SO2 in indoor and outdoor air. The mechanism for removing the selected pollutants as well as the rate of reaction depends on some of the main influencing factors. And the light gets to complete this mission by penetrating the light of the pregnant bearer of this system and two things come out of this process, they are carbon dioxide and water vapor which takes us to the third stage where the silica gel that absorbs this moisture and takes out the carbon dioxide for the plant. Of the many viruses and invisible things accompanying the air.so at the end our project can purify the air from the  volatile organic compounds (VOC), NOx and SO2 in indoor and outdoor air by TiO2 and from the increased water vapor by the silica gel and from carbon dioxide and other harmful gases by the plants.so our project addresses the challenge of purifying the air as it can.

How We Developed This Project

we chose the challenge of purifying the air because we found that the air pollution is a big problem around the world especially in Africa as there are a lot of death and the other reason is the COVID-19 as it spreads in the air with the other viruses so we want to purify the air from the greatest number of viruses as the COVID-19 caused a lot of death and a big number of infectious so we wanted to purify the air of the houses for a good health in the quarantine and another thing that inspired us is the uses and projects of both NASA and ISS in the purification of the air.

our approach in developing this project is to reach a high air quality to solve the problem of the lack of respirators in hospitals in these current circumstances (COVID-19) as this project will purify the air from harmful gases and viruses and provide oxygen at the same time.and this project will contribute in solving the problem of the global air pollution. NASA datasets helped us a lot in collecting data to build up our project. We were able to know more about the materials that we used. Also the data inspired us a lot in our idea. We were able to search about information that we didn’t know before. It helped us feel more responsible to solve this problem and think of other and try to help them. Also the other space agencies helped us in preparing for the project.

We used some online tools in building our project. The first tool is google sketch up which we used in designing and building up the project. We were able to design the plant pot with extractor fan, metal wire cloth, holes, a place for silica gel, and a place for the plant. The second tool we used is wix which we used to build up the website, add content of text and videos. The third tool we used is premiere pro and other video editor to create the videos. The third too; We used some photo editors to edit some pictures. The fourth tool and finally we used is PowerPoint to create the presentation for the demo. those are the tool that helped us build the project.

The problems facing imposition on the way to success are the most important step to achieving the goal because every mistake teaches us not to make it again, but rather dedication to correcting the problems that we faced is time, but we quickly correct our mistakes to solve this problem and also there was a problem that we face in determining the problem that We want to work on it as we merged with more than one and we faced a difficulty in defining one problem to solve and one of the features that we wrote is how to learn and integrate more than one skill at one time as we became designers, directors, programmers, thinkers and creators to solve this problem so we gained many experiences and developed our skills in working under Pressed for the large number of works that we encountered in this project
