We got inspired by the ISS system to generate oxygen and recycle water (WRS) in order to make an isolated system with clean and pure air.
The team participated in the Space Apps Challenge 2019, with the specialty in aeronautics engineering and after analyzing the challenges of this special edition, the challenge of cleaning the air was of common interest because of the group's knowledge about fluid mechanics. Then within the challenge, another member who is a chemical engineer was recruited to help the team understand the chemical behavior of air and water.
The main approach was based on the generation of oxygen and clean air by means of electrolysis. This is combined in a hybrid system with the cleaning of outdoor air by means of selective filters and resistance in order to purify it and leave it free of viruses or malignant bacteria in the outdoor environment.
The inspiration for the project came from the International Space Station and its method of generating oxygen and recycling water. Through the data provided by the space agencies, it was possible to obtain the process they use on the space station, this employed and will be adapted for use in homes, schools or offices on Earth.
Several computer tools such as Siemens NX and SolidWorks software were used to design the machines that will make our process effective. In addition, the Ansys Workbench tool was used for the airflow simulations that had to be done, also with the Sony Vega program, with which we made the presentation video.
In the beginning, there were problems with the main idea of generating clean air, in addition, there were difficulties with the knowledge of chemical elements, but later it was possible to integrate into the team an expert on this topic and get to raise an effective idea of oxygen generation and a viable process.

In this project, the idea is to take the air from outdoors and put it into an Isolated system effectively and reliable, without a virus or any malignant bacteria. With this, we make sure to have air quality within a very large system. That will help us to carry out our daily activities normally.
The idea of
this project is to implement a closed and self-sustaining room system that has the capacity to self-regenerate all the basic needs that humans need, including water and oxygen, important consideration it the system will be completely isolated from the outside, and humans will not have to expose to any damage that in the future may occur in the environment. This system of 50% recycle the air used in the water and another 50% using the outside air eliminates all the dangerous particles that can contain the air, it must be specified that this project of the self-sustaining room completely isolated works with renewable energy that helps a human being to create his own electrical supply that we need for food or basic uses in daily life.
