Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

Discov AIR-19

Summary

The project prototyped an application that compiles and correlates patient data by COVID-19 and air quality data, using geolocation and demonstrating through percentage densities the chance (high, medium, low) of the application user being contaminated by COVID -19, focusing mainly on environmental impacts that influence disease, and how humans should deal with it.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our project deals with the challenge studying the impacts caused by COVID-19 on the environmental area, analyzing how the quality air data and pollution (wildfires and industrial zones) affect people who live nearby, increasing the amount of people with respiratory diseases, in addition it increases the risk factors of older people. So, our project inform the population with air quality data and amount of COVID cases, reporting the probability of being infected in certain places,  compiling the air quality and amount of cases data, using geolocation, microservices API and interactive dashboards, with other features, where the app Discov AIR-19, can also be used by public managers, environmental managers and hospital managers, to make a decision in chalenges that appear on a daily basis

How We Developed This Project

The team was inspired to choose this challenge because the majority of members has affinity with natural sciences, we have professionals working in Chemistry, Physics and Technological area, besides, the Challenge of Quiet Planet moved us, because the challenge is related to environmental factors, and its consequences on social and anthropological factors. We use your plataforms  Nasa Earth Data, API"s NASA, Air Quality Observation from Space and Johns Hopkins, but the most used plataforms were maps, data bases and BI (Business Intelligency), geolocation, Microservices API, and we also use Thunkable, to make the layout of our app Discov AIR - 19.The main problem found in the challenge and in our team accomplishments, is that we do not had a developer, and a app designer, because the most part of the team has knowledge in the academic area, but we aren't experts in IT area, besides that, the solution of environmental factors with sanitary factors, demanded a lot of work, to find the social and environmental value
