Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

Data4Change

Summary

Using the access to NASA data we discovered that the world pollution has decreased dramatically with the isolation caused by COVID-19, prooving that human activity is responsible for so much pollution. We identified that this is an opportunity to give people objective information about how they impact the environment. By mapping the environmental footprint of individuals and rewarding those who reach a footprint lower than their city average with points. Those points will give them a status in their environmental collaboration to the planet and will also alow them to get descounts in environmental conciouss good and services.

How We Addressed This Challenge

This project does not only brings the relation between COVID-19 and changes in the planet environment, but adresses what we can do to make those changes sustainable after the isolation ends.

How We Developed This Project

We believe that people can do better if they know exactly the impact that they have. We used the NASA data, from earthdata, to identify the change in the pollution caused by the COVID-19 isolation and to identify the cities average environmental footprint.
