Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

Summary

We are from the “Lust For Life” team and the problem we are tackling is current and extremely important, the emission of harmful gases into the atmosphere and prevention of Covid-19. To help in this matter, we developed an app with the intention of make them able to prevent themselves from places with a high concentration of harmful gases, like burning plances, also from agglomerations and sources of contamination from Covid-19. The app will alert you via notifications of these problems close to the user's location. All in a game interface.

How We Addressed This Challenge

Our team chose challenge number 1, a quiet planet, and our project aims to clarify to the user how the situation of the Earth's atmosphere is in relation to the gases that cause climate change released before, during and after the Covid-19 isolation.

How We Developed This Project

Our concern was to make a mobile application, easy to access and use, raise the awareness of as many people as possible so that they avoid areas of easy contamination of Covid-19 and crowded areas, in addition to warning about excessive emissions of harmful gases in the atmosphere  that can be avoided by the users themselves.

We use gas concentration data that NASA has provided us with on one of the links available on the site, so that we can alert users where these areas are located and the places where they have to avoid. In addition, we used the prototyper JustinMind to produce the prototype of the app.
