Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

PCR-IS (Pollution, COVID-19, Rain Precipitation Information System)

Summary

PCR-IS apps is acronym of pollution, COVID-19 and rain precipitation information system. Application will display some information. First, concerning the amount of monthly rain precipitation and the number of COVID-19 cases in each province in Indonesia. Information from these data is used as an analysis of whether rainfall will affect the spread of COVID-19. Secondly, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases with airborne CO. Information from these data is used as an analysis with data COVID-19.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic had a great impact on the patterns of human life. All sectors of life are changing so fast in the world. The spread of the pandemic is so fast that humans must have a way to avoid contracting this disease. Implementation of social distancing or lockdown a city must be carried out. there is always a relationship between humans and the environment. Based on rainfall and distribution data COVID-19 will inform about the impact of rainfall. Rainfall patterns occur whether increasing COVID-19 cases or actually reducing cases. If you reduce the case, in some province in Indonesia it can be a solution by making it rain. The distribution of rainfall from confirmed cases is built through the Google Earth Engine with coding and programming. Second, the reduced human activity due to the adoption of lockdown by the government of course has an impact on the environment as well. The decreasing number of vehicles on the road and the non-operation of the factory makes a decrease in CO gas on earth. That means the earth is cleaner for pollution. An illustration of the reduction in CO pollution will be presented in the form of a map and displayed as a concept in mobile apps. The mobile application is only a concept and has not been built by coding or programming. We hope that this information system will develop a new policy for handling COVID-19.

How We Developed This Project

The key to handling COVID-19 is the open source of data and policies that are right for the community. This inspired us to create PCRIS applications. by using rainfall maps, CO maps, COVID-19 case data as baseline data, and Google Earth Engine. To develop visualization through rainfall data processing with PENTAD time unit filter and covid-19 case data in each province at Indonesia. System development through programming is done on Google Earth Engine. We combine the three data to be an informative information system to the public. The data is presented in the form of mobile apps but only a concept. The data we use comes from several sources including the Indonesian government and NASA.
