Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

Be responsible for your Home Planet

Summary

The project is a web-page, which contains a brief informative background about the results of virus on environment and, to prevent the irresponsible approach of people in the future, animations, understandable for all age groups, where there are shown the amount of gas emissions for every mean of transport and their effect on different aspects of environment visualised on a map. The project also carries the idea of interactive game with the same idea of raising the responsibility level by using

How We Addressed This Challenge

The project shows the result of a break in tranport usage from different aspects using NASA, ESA and JAXA datas and has an aim to raise awareness about tranport impact on environment by using animations and games

How We Developed This Project

Over the year there have been an idea of a better environment without transport overuse. Although it was nearly impossible to check. With spreading of Covid-19, the impossible happened and that idea got proven. However, this achievement, probably, will be lost after the quarantine and our aim is to prevent this. We used data for having deep understanding of virus’s environmental results and data visualisations for our animations and game and used html, css, javascript, wordpress and photoshop for developing them. The main problem was poor internet conection and the lack of time, but our team managed to organise the plan of the project and make it happen. With more time we could develop animations, the game and gather information about all the vechiles for emission calculator.
