Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

CoView

Summary

CoView is a collaborative platform that includes spatial imaginary and diverse numerical data in one place. This data is interpreted by experts, providing insights for Governments and private institutions in order to develop solutions for global problems. Our platform is not restricted to the analysis of the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. It can be used to deal with future problems and their social reflexes. The project was created for any user, thus we can propagate scientific Knowledge.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The CoView platform integrates spatial imagery and diverse numerical data in only one place. Thus, we can provide ways of interpreting the differences between past and future, documenting local and global changes caused by the pandemic and its consequences.

How We Developed This Project

What inspired our team to choose the “Quiet Planet” challenge was the humanitarian contribution behind the challenge, by focusing on environmental changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and its social effects. Through spatial imaginary the platform can provide information related to climate changes and its impacts during the pandemic. Thus, we used data available in the challenge links, which allowed us to create and apply APIs. The programming languages used were: javascript (nodejs) and Python and the frameworks were angular.js and ionic, bootstrap, API and corona-api. The most challenging part during this project was to collect good quality imaginary to use in our comparisons.
