Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

HOPE-19 (Minimizing risk , Maximizing productivity)

Summary

For COVID-19 situation, our economical state is not stable. So, we are presenting a platform to solve this problem in an effective way. This platform will create opportunities within the safe areas for those people who are not affected with COVID-19 and need jobs or want to provide jobs to keep the economical stream moving. This platform offers a culture that can reduce environment pollution by decreasing the usage of vehicles and traffic jam and will help to create a healthy community in future.

How We Addressed This Challenge

We team Titania are presenting a platform to solve this problem, which can help us to fight safely against this pandemic situation and keep the economic state stable. Our platform will offer those people who are physically fit and need jobs or want to provide jobs within the COVID-19 free areas. We have already observed that our environment has become pollution free as people are at their own homes and the roads are also free from traffic congestion. It is also our main target to keep our environment safe, maintain proper social distance and continue our economic development. Our platform will help the people to get jobs staying at their own areas, so they do not have to go far to get jobs which will ultimately reduce traffic jam and the usage of vehicles. The owner of different shops or restaurants will find workers from nearest areas and it will reduce the risk of COVID-19. The owners and workers will have to be tested COVID-19 negative to find or provide jobs in this platform. The tutors can also get jobs by this platform and work staying in own areas with near and dear ones. Thus, we believe our economic state will rise soon, will reduce environment pollution and the death rate will also reduce by maintaining social distance and social interaction. So, our motto is to minimize risk and maximize production.

How We Developed This Project

What inspired our team to choose this challenge?
We are team TITANIA from Bangladesh . As we all know, Bangladesh is a developing country and a large number of people here are living under poverty line . This Corona virus has not only hit us on health issues but also on our
Economical development . Lockdown is not just a myth for these people . They had to go out to work everyday in order to feed themselves and their families . This is a huge risk for them as well as for  whole country due to this ongoing pandemic .
It was not possible to make them stay at home and maintain self isolation .However, not only Bangladesh but also most of the world is facing this problem right now. So, we team TITANIA have decided to solve this problem with our
web platform named HOPE-19 . In the mean time we realized that this platform has impacts on environment as well . We are offering a culture where we are avoiding social gathering and high fuel consumption . This impact can bring a
better and safer environment for us and for the next generations.
What was your approach to developing this project?
We had planned about HOPE-19 on 22 of May . From that they we started implementing our dream of solving this huge global problem . We divided into 3 sub teams . One of the team started developing the website's front end and back end ,
another sub team started gathering data from NASA and from different sources . And the 3rd sub team started writing descriptions and making videos for presenting this dream project . And on 31 of May,we were done developing
our project.

How did you use space agency data in your project?
Here we tried to track corona virus infected hotspot by using some data, collected from reliable sources . We compared the number of infection with the population density ,the age ratio , the ratio of men and women and the size
of that area by using SEDAC,NASA's data. We tried to get the idea of air pollution around the globe . In order to get this we took data from NASA EARTHDATA . We also needed the current scenario of Air quality to compare with pre
covid-19 scenario . We took data from NASA.gov to have an idea about how the Air quality  has changed due to this pandemic and how our platform can contribute on developing air quality.
What tools, coding languages, hardware, software did you use to develop your project?
Tools:
Text editor: Sublime Text 3
Software: XAMPP Control Panel
video editing: Adobe Premiere Pro

Coding languages:
HTML
CSS
PHP

What problems and achievements did your team have?
Firstly, it is out very first project and we are not that experienced. So, we faced huge problems embodying our project but we were determined enough to make this impossible , possible . NASA Covid-19  Challenge made us
believe that we can to do anything if we are focused and determined enough.

We compared the number of infection with the population density ,the age ratio , the ratio of men and women and the size of that area by using SEDAC,NASA's data.(42844 confirmed cases till now in Bangladesh , 25.13 per 100,000 people)

  • NASA EarthData:

Every year, around 7 million deaths occur due to exposure from air pollution and 9 out of 10 people worldwide breathe polluted air, according to the World Health Organization. Scientists, health officials, and air quality managers around the globe are conducting research into this silent but deadly killer. With the information acquired from both ground-based and satellite- based data, decision makers are able to monitor and respond to events.

  • PollutionFree:

Vehicle emissions not only cause harmful health impacts for people near them but they also affect the quality of the water near urban areas by adding nitrogen dioxides to the water off the coast which promotes algae growth, starving the fish of oxygen.

Human life comes to a standstill as many countries shut themselves off from the work due to the novel coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19) that hit the world severely in the first quarter of 2020. All types of industries, vehicle movement, and people's activity suddenly halted, perhaps for the first time in modern history.
