Quiet Planet

The COVID-19 outbreak and the resulting social distancing recommendations and related restrictions have led to numerous short-term changes in economic and social activity around the world, all of which may have impacts on our environment. Your challenge is to use space-based data to document the local to global environmental changes caused by COVID-19 and the associated societal responses.

Lockdown Hope

Summary

LockDown Hope, is a web platform in which anyone can see the positive environmental impact that emerged with the Covid quarantine, from the changes in air pollution to urban heats. They can also take a simple quiz that will show them how the changes in their daily life have positively impacted the environment.

How We Addressed This Challenge

The way the project addressses this challenge is  promoting impact and awareness about environmental issues affected by the social damage caused by the corona virus. Therefore, our platform uses climatic data to show society how necessary it is to take care of the environment and how Covid-19 was crucial in those changes.

How We Developed This Project

Our team was inspired by recent data showing a correlation between the social damage caused by Covid-19 and the improvement of data related to the environment. The team decided to create an online platform (website) in which information about changes caused  in a few quarantine months are passed to the user. The data from space agencies were of great importance when showing variations in gas concentrations and other factors. For the creation of the platform the following tools were used: web development softwares were used, data analysis and filtering and github. The team has always aimed to absorb the greatest amount of experience and knowledge possible and leaves the challenge with its ambitions more than conquered .
