SDGs and COVID-19

This challenge invites you to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by looking at the current and ongoing change in the monitoring indicators of the UN SDGs using Earth observation/remote sensing and global Earth system model-derived analysis products.

Hunger Fighters

Summary

According to this challenge that aims to help people and trying to achieving the SDGs. Our solution aims to fight hunger and help people to get food. Many people lost their jobs and sit in their homes because of the curfew. So, Our solution is simply an application that contain a database about all people that need food and cannot get it because of the virus and the curfew, and the app contains a place for the volunteers to collect food from them and then deliver this food to those people trying to help them.

How We Addressed This Challenge

This challenge talked about analyzing the impact of covid 19 on the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs). We chose the hunger problem as after the curfew and the bad circumstances that happened because of covid 19, many people lost their jobs and sit at home. Economy also has been affected badly. So, the percentage of hunger increased and many people will not be able to afford the hunger any more. So our solution will help those people by making contacts with the volunteers , collecting food from them. And they will donate according to the data that we will show it to them to know who’s they will help and how much they suffer and need their help. This solution will help people to stand and beer more Longley these circumstances till this virus disappeared and those people could go to their jobs again.

How We Developed This Project

After exploring the challenges, we chose this challenge as we found that according to the statistics and results of natural disasters or coronavirus currently may cause tremendous results that could hinder sustainable development goals such as eliminating hunger, etc. As they affect the economy in some villages where farmers live. It prevents them from working too much and this can cause starvation and malnutrition.

So, we had applicable ideas in order to overcome this challenge. That goal was to help people with the most damaged economics as people that are affected by these impacts who cannot work as a result of covid-19 or any disaster as flood or drought and face hunger by helping them to communicate with the volunteers or factories’ owners and charities that can provide them with supplies as food in an easy way. We designed an application that the targeted people can sign up and enter their data and the volunteers and people who can help them can contact and discuss with them.

The space agency data that we used and helped us was about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its indicators as hunger, poverty, and renewable energy. As we specified in hunger indicator to work on, so we found researches and data about it. The concept of hunger, food security, and nutrition helped us to support our data for the application’s goal to overcome this challenge. And the survey’s also and mapping played an important role in the statistics of the cases that we target in our project.

We used:

1- An app for making the simulation for "Hunger Fighters app".

2- Flutter language for developing the "Hungar Fighters app" later.

3- Data from NASA, FAO and other agencies.

The problem that face us was during collecting the database as there were many different sources , so this lead us to search more to get the documented information that will help us in this application.

The achievements that we made was the app as it will help many people who cannot work and get food. It also will help in fighting the hunger and decreasing the percentage of it in the future and this will help in achieving the aim of the challenge and the (SDGs.
